The family of Blain Mattie, age 73, of Georgeville, Antigonish County, are saddened to announce his passing on November 19, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. Born Blain Joseph Mattie on July 13, 1950, in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Hubert Anthony and Marguerite Rosella (Mahar) Mattie.
Blain was a man of great faith and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a gentle soul with a quick wit and a kind heart. Blain helped a lot of people throughout his life and his creative solutions to every day problems will be greatly missed. Blain is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathryn Marie (Macdonald); daughter, Kara Marie (Trevor) Deon; sons, David Kyle Mattie (Debra) and Kirk Joseph Mattie (Katie); and other daughter, Kyla Neary Griffiths (Adam); grandchildren, Dana Deon, John Deon, James Deon, and Caelen Mattie; siblings, Leonard Mattie, Sheila MacDonald, Monica Mattie, Nancy Murley, Fred Mattie, Mary Chisholm, Ann Marie MacDonald, Valerie Sullivan, Susan Cameron, and Matthew Mattie; and his many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Paul and Gerard (in infancy), and brother-in-law, Ian MacDonald. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass Thursday at 10 am in St. George’s Church, Georgeville. Burial in the parish cemetery.
