McDonald, Austin

12 Apr 1919

At Ballentyne’s Cove, Antigonish Co., of influenza on April 12th, Austin McDonald, son of Capt. Angus McDonald, aged 22 yrs.  The deceased was a model young man, industrious, cheerful, kind and charitable and beloved by all.  His life though short was always an active and useful one and a life that ever found him faithful and careful in attending to his religious duties.  This was shown especially in his devout reception of the last sacraments, his patience in enduring sufferings and his perfect resignation to meet earth, since he recognized it the will of God. For 10 years he served as altar boy to the Pastor at Ballentyne’s Cove church.   Poor Austin’s  name will ever be remembered and cherished  and his early death has evoked unusual sorrow in the community.  On Saturday, April 12th, his remains were laid to rest in Ballentyne’s Cove Cemetery, after a Mass of Requiem by the pastor. Besides sorrowing parents, he leaves to mourn the loss of an innocent and virtuous brother, three sisters and brothers.
