McDonald, Isabella “Nell”

16 Mar 1911   Isabella “Nell” McDonald

At Lakevale, Ant., N.S. on March 16, 1911, at the advanced age of 112 years, Isabella McDonald (spinster), better known as Scotch Nell.  Deceased was born in Knoydart, Scotland and was past the prime of life when she came to America, in the ship “Lady hunter”.  Always of a cheerful, honest and industrious disposition, she will be greatly missed.   Fortified by all the rites of Holy Mother Church, of which she was always a devout member, good and faithful old Scotch Bell went forth to meet her God, with her lamp trimmed and burning.

Death of a Centenarian – The death of a centenarian is chronicled in our list of deaths published this week.  The deceased was for a number of years regarded as a centenarian, though we understand there is no exact record of her age.  The oldest resident of Cape George, Ant., where she lived for many years, always regarded her as an aged woman, and from all sources of information the conclusion arrived at is that hse must have been fully 112 years old.  She was widely known, as “Scotch Bell”, her wonderful age and sprightly disposition making her one of the noted personages in the district.
