5 May 1935 John McEachern
Suddenly at South Side Cape George, Sunday, May 5, John McEachern, known farmiliarly through the county as “Teacher McEachern”. HIs sudden death was a shocked to the community as he was esteemed and respected highly by all. Honest and upright in all his dealings and a true Christian his word was as good as his bond. Born at St. Andrew’s in 1856, he attended the public school and also attended ST. F.X. College, while staying with the late Monsignor Hugh Gillis. He began teaching in 1877, and followed the profession for 25 years. Deceased was the son of the late Donald McEachern and Penelope MacGillivray. IN 1888 he married Jeanette MacDoanld, Big Marsh, and purchasing a home at Cape George moved there. He leaves to mourn his death four sons, and two daughters; also one sister Mary in Antigonish, and three brothers; Allan in Rochester, Mass; Angus in Charlestown, Mass., and Lauchlin of St. Andrew’s. He died consoled by the last rites of the Church. After requiem Mass at Ballantyne’s Cove by Rev. D. Beaton, his remains was buried in the churchyard there. HIs funeral was largely attended.
