At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Angus MacGillivray, Lakevale, on Aug 14th, Mrs. Mary McEachern relic of the late Donald L. McEachern of Cape George, in the 96th year of her age, one of the old landmarks of Cape George. Born at South River in Sept. 1827, daughter and only child of Angus Gillis, she moved to Cape George when a child and lived until she married with her uncle, the late Roderick McDonald, (Ban). She had a family of ten children, seven daughters and three sons, of whom seven survive her: namely, Mrs. Mary MacGillivray, Antigonish, Mrs. John MacGillivray, Antigonish, Mrs. Hector McDonald, Maryvale, Mrs. John W. McInnis, South Side Cape, Mrs. Angus MacGillivray, Lakevale, L.J. MacEachern, merchant, Ballantyne’s Cove and Dan McEachern Seattle, Washington. Her husband predeceased her by some 12 years. She leaves to mourn her also a large number of grand-children and great-grandchildren. She lived to see four bishops in this diocese. After requiem mass by Rev. D. Beaton her remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband at Ballantyne’s Cove cemetery. Her funeral was one of the largest ever seen in the parish, showing the respect and esteem in which she was held by her friends and neighbors of all denominations. The last five years had been a period of preparation for death, and her strong faith made the last end a happy one. She lived a blameless life always keeping in mind the eternal home.
