PANS Assembly Petition – Antigonish County 1917
Hon. George H. Murray
Premier of Nova Scotia
Sir,
At a meeting of the Cape George Agricultural Society held on the 26th of March, 1917 the following resolutions were passed.
In view of the great inconvenience and hardships endured by the farmers in this district owing to the long haul to the nearest grist mill, which distance must often be traveled the second time before the individual secure one grist.
It was resolved that your government be urged to again consider the Petition so unanimously signed by the farmers of Lakevale, Cape George, Ballantynes Cove, Livingstones Cove, Morar, Georgeville, Malignant Cove, Maryvale, Big Marsh, Dr’s Brook and Arisaig, which we sent you last year, requesting a bonus towards erecting an up to date Gristmill at Malignant Cove. Antigonish County is a large agricultural area without transportation facilities. It is absolutely necessary that the farmer be encouraged to grow more wheat ?? By ??? us to erect a Gristmill in a central locality the desired result will be obtained.
It was further resolved that as your government has been so generous in the past in aiding the farmers of the Province, that you will not turn a deaf ear to our appeal, but graciously assist us in this commendable project.
