This lovely lady is Johanna aka Hannah McGillivray (Welsh/Walsh), born in August of 1862. She had her portrait taken in July of 1900 and is listed as Mrs. John McGillivray (who needs a first name anyway?!). John was from Lakevale area and she was from closer to Antigonish. They were married March 8, 1886 at St. Ninian’s but found themselves living out at the Cape until at least 1921 when the last census was taken. They had a few children, some of which we know from the census. There was John A, Ella Rose, Eunice, Salina, Mary Ann and an adopted boy named Frank. They must have moved after 1921 as we do not know where she is buried. She died in September of 1935. Photo Credit: Dalhousie University Archives.
