Adams, Wilma Eileen

Funeral Home – Wilma Eileen Adams 1935-2025

Adams, Wilma Eileen, 89, of New Glasgow, formerly of Antigonish, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 7th, at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Cape George, Antigonish Co.  Eileen was a daughter of the late John and Ella Lee (Cameron) Adams.  Those who were fortunate enough to know Eileen know her life was teaching.  Those children who were fortunate enough to be taught by her grew up loving their memories of her primary classrooms and even in adulthood they never stopped calling her by her “teacher name” Ms. Adams.  Eileen received her teaching degree at the Normal College in Truro, NS.   While she did briefly teach out of province, the majority of her career was teaching primary students in schools in Antigonish County.   This meant that some of the students she taught became the parents of the next generation she helped educate.   Her soft demeanor and kindness were traits that endeared her to her colleagues, students, and community. Eileen was a woman of faith and was active in the United Church community.  In retirement she was an active Elder of the St. James United Church.   She enjoyed socializing at card plays and couldn’t pass up a good flea market. The last living member of her immediate family, Eileen died as she lived, peacefully and quietly.   She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews, whose lives and achievements meant the world to her. Besides her parents she is predeceased by brothers John and Cameron and her sisters: Violet Sutherland, Mary , Isabel Toole, Pearl Phillips, and Adelaide; niece Evelyn Bannerman and nephews Todd Adams and Elwood Toole; and her lifelong companion Hughie MacGillivray.

A visitation will take place on Friday January 10, 2025 from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St. Antigonish.   A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 11, 2025 at 11am in St. James United Church, Reverend Peter Smith presiding.   Burial will take place at St Davids United Church cemetery in the spring.
